PROGRESS. What a wonderful sight it is to see progress on the jail project. As of this writing,
the site has been laid out. Corner stakes are in place, batten boards are in the ground, earth-moving
equipment is on site and silt fencing has been placed. The General Contractor has his trailers and
equipment there and all is well. Some rearranging has been done for County Conservation’s parking
area and several other small details have been taken care of, so now when Mother Nature starts to give
us drier weather, everything is ready to move. Monday was the official Ground Breaking ceremony and
I’m sure that all went well. (I’m writing this on Friday) We’re just waiting on a little weather
improvement to really start rolling. After seeing “paper progress” for the better part of the past
couple of years, seeing things happen on the ground is great.
County Clips - Code Red
A couple weeks ago I went over the Code Red system in detail. I was unable at that time to give you the
process and web site for adding your cell phone(s), but here it is now.
Go to www.louisacountyiowa.org and click on Emergency Management near the top of the page, when you get
on the emergency management page you will see “Code Red” in large print at about the middle of the page.
That will take you to the Code Red site. When you are on the Code Red site find where it says “click here
to get started:” and follow the directions.
Once the form is filled out and submitted, the information goes to Emergency Management to be verified
and the information is entered in the system.
We had a nice write up in the Des Moines Register last week. John Carlson, an Oakville native and
Register columnist, took an interest in the Code Red system after reading about it in our local papers and
informed the rest of the state that Louisa County is on the cutting edge again.
Take advantage of this system and get your contact numbers listed, and while you’re at it, take a look
at the Louisa County site and see what the county offices have to offer.
