Responsibilities may include: assisting with personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, grocery shopping, and companionship. SEASONAL CONSERVATION AIDE - Louisa County Conservation
Description: Spring/Summer position under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor and Ranger/Technician. Position based out of the shop in Wapello, IA. This position can start as early as April and end as late as October. Starting and ending dates are flexible. 40 hour work week with weekends, evenings, and overnight required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position, but other duties may be required and/or assigned as needed.
• Assist in park maintenance operations and duties such as mowing, trimming, painting, trail work, collection of garbage and liter pickup. • Assist in park patrol duties including cleaning restrooms. • Assist with prescribed burns, as training and timing permits. • Assist other board staff as requested by the Operations Supervisor or Executive Director.

Salary: $10 per hour. No benefits, no housing available.
Entry Level Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old. Prefer degree or working toward a degree with major coursework in conservation, natural resources, physical science or park and recreation management. Valid motor vehicle operators' license required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be able to walk over a variety of landscapes and use hands to manipulate hand tools such as chainsaws, shovels and similar tools. May also operate tractors, mowers and other equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

 Naturalist Internship - Louisa County Conservation
Description: Spring/Summer position under the supervision of the county naturalists. Position based out of the office in Wapello, IA. This position can start as early as April and ends in August. • Assist with planning, promoting and presenting conservation, recreation and environmental education programs to the general public, schools and other groups. • Assist in designing interpretive and promotional displays and exhibits. • Assist with the board's summer rec, nature camps, extreme adventures and other programs. • Facilitate programs on the Langwood High Ropes Challenge Course. • Assist with park maintenance as needed. • Assist other board staff as needed.

Salary: $10 per hour. No benefits, no housing available.
Entry Level Requirements: Prefer degree or working toward a degree with major coursework in environmental education, education, interpretation, recreation or natural resources. One year of experience in natural resource management or education desirable. Additional experience in public speaking, human resources and planning helpful. Valid motor vehicle operators' license required. Ability and willingness to be trained as a facilitator on the high ropes challenge course required (this requires climbing 40’ telephone poles and belaying participants from the ground).

Summer Rec Internships - Louisa County Conservation
Description: Two summer positions available under the supervision of the county naturalists. Position based out of the office in Wapello, IA. This position begins June 4 and ends August 6. Approximately a 30-hour work week with hours from 8am-2pm most days.
Summer Rec is an educational/recreational program where staff will go to a local city park each day for a week, or two, and provide activities for that city’s youth. Most days the program will be 3 hours long (9am-noon) and feature a theme, crafts, games and activities. Then it will be repeated in another city.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position, but other duties may be required and/or assigned as needed.
• Assist with planning and promoting Summer Rec programs to local cities. • Present Summer Rec programs to the various cities. • Assist with other programs as requested. • Assist other board staff as needed.

Salary: $10 per hour. No benefits, no housing available. Small stipend for use of personal vehicle.
Entry Level Requirements: Prefer degree or working toward a degree in education, environmental education, interpretation, recreation or natural science. Additional experience in public speaking, human resources and planning helpful. Valid motor vehicle operators' license required and use of own vehicle.

Interpreter at Toolesboro Indian Mounds and Museum - Louisa County Conservation

Responsibilities: Staff Toolesboro museum and greet visitors. Lead tours as requested by visitors. Answer visitor questions about the museum and other area attractions. Light cleaning is included (vacuuming, dusting, wash windows, and cleaning the restroom). Other duties may be assigned by the Executive Director, including computer data entry.

Hours: 4 hours/day, Wednesday – Sunday (shared position with another part time employee). There may be some flexibility in the schedule but weekend hours are required.

Length of employment: Memorial Day weekend (May 26) – Labor Day weekend (Sept 3), then Saturdays only through the end of October. Occasional hours in off-season for tour and school groups. This position is filled annually.

Pay: $10.00/hour

Qualifications: Must be 18 years or older. Must be willing and able to work alone with little supervision. The ideal candidate will have an interest in history and be able to communicate well with visitors.
